Swift Avenue S / S Myrtle Street / S Othello Street Paving Project

Paving, curb ramp upgrades, sidewalk repairs, bus stop improvements, drainage upgrades

Updated: November 18, 2019

Construction on Swift Ave S, S Myrtle and Othello Streets is now complete.

Project Overview

Swift Ave S, S Myrtle St, and S Othello are two-way arterials serving south Seattle. The streets link Holly Park and Beacon Hill to Interstate 5 (I-5). Our goal is to improve the safety, accessibility, and comfort for all users.

Crews have repaved about 1.75 miles of Swift Ave S, S Myrtle St, and S Othello between S Albro Pl and Martin Luther King Jr Way S. As part of the repaving, the old top layer of the road was removed and replaced with new asphalt and paint. In addition to repaving, we improved the existing bike lane along Swift Ave S / S Myrtle St between S Albro Pl and Martin Luther King Jr Way S by making it wider. Parking was consolidated along S Myrtle St east of Beacon Ave S.

Other project elements included:

  • Installation or upgrades of curb ramps to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Replacement of traffic detection loops that control the signals
  • Repairs and replacements of some sections of sidewalk in the project area
  • King County Metro bus stop improvements
  • Storm drainage code compliance
