Project Overview
Paving projects provide opportunities to cost-effectively update street designs to promote safety. We prioritize paving based on pavement condition, traffic volume, geographic equity, cost, and opportunities for grants or coordination with other projects in the area.
As part of our paving program, The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) repaved approximately 0.3 miles of NE Pacific St, making it safer and more comfortable to travel on, while extending the useful life of the street.
NE Pacific St is a major corridor that connects northeast Seattle to the University District, and is a major transit street, serving many King County Metro routes. This section of NE Pacific St is home to University of Washington Medical Center.
In addition to paving, curb ramps have also been added as a part of this work. Curb ramps are sloped transitions from the sidewalk down to the crosswalk, which facilitate increased accessibility, particularly for those with limited mobility. Curb ramp design and construction follow Americans with Disabilities (ADA) guidelines which includes a ramp with a detectable warning surface, landings, and necessary sidewalk transitions and (minor) utility modifications.
Schedule
June 2020 - construction begins
September 2020 - major construction activities complete
Funding
This project is part of SDOT's Arterial and Asphalt and Concrete (AAC) Paving Program. Design and construction of our paving projects, as well as the safety and mobility improvements shown, are funded by the Levy to Move Seattle, approved by Seattle voters in November 2015.
