What's happening now?

Major construction is complete! Crews have completed all major construction activities on 6th Ave. Throughout the summer, you may continue to see crews onsite wrapping up minor construction activities. We hope you have enjoyed traveling on the smooth new roadway, and we appreciate your patience over the last several months of construction!

Project Overview

Each year, we pave arterial streets in poor condition to make them safer, smoother, and to extend their useful life. Keeping our transportation system in a state of good repair helps lower the cost of future maintenance. Curb ramp upgrades to comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act standards are anticipated to be complete in late April/early May 2018. Grinding and paving between Stewart St and Yesler Way are scheduled to begin in early May 2018. As part of this project, we will also install a new crossing beacon at Marion St.

We selected and prioritized this project based on pavement condition, traffic volumes, opportunities to improve the roadway's operations, and more.

We will:

  • Upgrade curb ramps and make minor sidewalk fixes at select locations on both sides of 6th Ave
  • Repair the underlying street base
  • Grind existing pavement and pave the street curb to curb
  • Install a new crossing beacon to improve safety for people crossing at Marion St
  • Replace traffic detection sensors

Levy to Move Seattle LogoFunding

The $2.37M project budget is being funded by the voter-approved Transportation Levy to Move Seattle, approved by voters in 2015.
