Athletic Field Projects

Updated: November 21, 2023

About

Seattle Parks and Recreation's playfields are one of our most heavily used assets. As part of our asset management plan the turf playfields are renovated every 10 to 12 years for safety reasons. The carpet fibers of the synthetic turf fields age over time and lose their ability to hold the infill that keeps the surface soft. For new synthetic turf and synthetic turf replacement projects, Seattle Parks and Recreation is investing in state-of-the-art synthetic turf systems that are safe, playable, durable, and retain less heat in the summer. On grass athletic fields, the irrigation and drainage are repaired or replaced, and the natural turf is restored. Where possible, we are also investing in the highest quality energy-efficient field lighting which minimizes spill light and glare off the field while providing performance recreational light. Many projects will also improve the accessibility to the field in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Below is a list of athletic fields we will be working on over the next couple years. Select project/location links to find more information about each project.
