About The P-Patch

Established: 2003
Size: 2,500 sq. ft.

Brandon Street Orchard
In the 1930s, King County seized a small lot in the Hillman City neighborhood. For decades, the spot was used as a makeshift dump - until neighbors decided to turn it around. The land was purchased by the Department of Neighborhoods from the county for $2,000. In 2003, neighbors put together a Department of Neighborhood Matching Fund grant to build the orchard.

What's Growing? Community, side by side, with Asian pears, European pears, Italian prunes, apples, blueberries, kiwi and currants. They hold regular work parties. Planting, pruning and taking pride in their garden.
