Their Role and Responsibilities
The Presiding Judge has the authority to assign work to the magistrates. Their duties and responsibilities can include:
- Handling contested civil traffic infractions, parking infractions, and various ordinance violations.
- Presiding over mitigation and contested settlement conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.
Magistrates are expected to perform their assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely, efficient manner consistent with law, with appropriate judicial demeanor, and respect for the rights of court participants and court personnel. Failure to fulfill any of these duties or responsibilities, as determined by the Presiding Judge, may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.
