Fall 2024 Budget Deliberations Timing

The Committee’s annual budget deliberation process will commence on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, upon the delivery of Mayor Harrell’s 2025-2026 Proposed Budget to the City Council. Budget deliberations will conclude when the City Council passes the 2025 Adopted Budget ordinance. The specific meeting dates and times for Council’s fall budget deliberations will be established via a subsequent memo later this year.

Pursuant to Council Rule VII.H.4, all standing and select committee meetings aside from the Select Budget Committee are suspended from September 24, 2024, until the Council passes the 2025 Adopted Budget, currently anticipated to take place before November 28, 2024. Exceptions will be made for special committee meetings as needed to facilitate timely review required by legislative actions such as a quasi-judicial matter or matters approved by the Council President and the Chair of the Select Budget Committee, after consultation with the Central Staff Director. In evaluating such requests, the availability of Central Staff and Office of City Clerk resources will be an important consideration. If such a request is approved, the Council President’s office and the requesting Councilmember’s office will coordinate with the Central Staff Director and the Deputy City Clerks to minimize scheduling conflicts.

Initial Meeting Location, Dates and Times

The Select Committee will meet at City Hall, Council Chambers, unless noted otherwise. The Committee will convene, prior to the annual budget deliberations at 9:30 a.m. on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, April 17, 2024
  • Wednesday, May 15, 2024
  • Wednesday, June 5, 2024
  • Wednesday, August 7, 2024

Additional dates may be added if needed to facilitate budget discussion prior to the fall process.

Five Councilmembers constitute a quorum for this Committee.

Meet the Council

The Seattle City Council establishes City policy through enactment of ordinances (laws) and adoption of resolutions. The City Council also approves and adopts the City's budget. The nine Council members and their legislative assistants are part of the City of Seattle Legislative Department.
