Grant Support
The Seattle Municipal Archives is grateful to the following agencies for their support:
Seattle City Light
Between 2006 and 2018, Seattle City Light provided support to the Municipal Archives for a variety of projects. The Communications and Public Affairs Division made possible the scanning, cataloging and indexing of more than 2,400 slides. In addition, the Division supported preservation and digitization of fifty 16 mm films and appraisal of over 2,300 moving images in varying formats of magnetic media, as well as cataloging, indexing, and digitization of hundreds of magnetic media items.
In 2017-2018, the Environmental Affairs and Real Estate Division supported the scanning, cataloging, and indexing of 8,000 negatives related to the construction of Boundary Dam. Project funds were allocated through the Historic Properties Management Plan, stipulated as part of the relicensing of the dam by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
4Culture
Grants from 4Culture have supported a variety of projects, including cataloging the General Files, cataloging and indexing over 1,000 maps, and creating access to images for "Life on the Cut," part of the centennial celebration of the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
Washington State Historical Society
A Women's History Consortium grant enabled research for and creation of an exhibit on the story of women fire fighters in the Seattle Fire Department. A grant from the Washington State Library with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services assisted with reformatting, cataloging, and indexing of audio holdings.
Washington State Archives
A Washington State Archives Local Grants Program project improved access to maps through conservation work and creation of digital images.
National Historical Publications and Records Commission
In addition to receiving a seed grant establishing the Archives, SMA was awarded a grant to process 2,223 cubic feet of its backlog. Through a partnership with Moving Image Preservation of Puget Sound (MIPoPS), SMA benefitted from an NHPRC grant to digitize Seattle Channel magnetic media.
