Project Description

Seattle City Light crews will be excavating for a new electrical vault and duct bank (underground pathway for electrical cables and conduits) to support electrical growth in the University District.

Location

The work will take place in an alleyway near Northeast 47th Street, between Brooklyn Avenue Northeast and University Way Northeast.

Project Update (October 2023): This project was completed in 2022.

Community Benefits

  • The upgrades will support electrical growth in the University District.

Anticipated Impacts

  • Crews will excavate within the alley to install the new vault and duct bank. Customers can expect some noise due to saw cutting and jackhammer equipment.
  • Uniformed police officers and traffic control flaggers will be present to redirect pedestrian and vehicle traffic near the construction work area.
  • Due to construction and truck staging, parking will be inaccessible on Northeast 47th Street between Brooklyn Avenue Northeast and University Way Northeast.
  • The alley will be closed to vehicle traffic during this project. Delivery, garbage, and recycling trucks will access the alley from the south entrance.

  • Start Date: Week of Feb. 7, 2022
  • Duration: Approximately three to four months
  • Work Hours:
    • Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    • Saturday/Sunday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
