What is Way to Go, Seattle?
Way to Go, Seattle is about people making smarter transportation choices - so they can save money and make their communities more livable, just as they do now with recycling and water conservation. Legislation and capital spending can help, but until we all learn to make smarter choices about how we travel, the problem won't be solved.
Way to Go, Seattle is the City of Seattle's umbrella for a variety of initiatives intended to improve livability by reducing automobile usage for non-work trips - and increasing the use of busing, biking, walking, trip consolidation and carpooling instead.
We know that 75% or more of all automobile trips - including 50% during peak hours - are for personal and family purposes rather than traveling to and from work. Encouraging people to drive less for these trips can improve neighborhood traffic, if enough people make small changes in their transportation lifestyles. This website gathers together a wealth of information to help you and your neighbors take action.
Here's what you can do:
Consider doing what the families in the "One-Less-Car" Demonstration Study did when they gave up one of their cars and discovered they could have the mobility they needed while saving money at the same time.
Use the Resources & Info page to find links to organizations which can help you learn how to be Car Smart. There are also pages of Car-Free Getaways throughout the state and right under your nose.
Review the City Efforts & Reports page to see the ways the City is working to reduce trips and increase transportation choices.
