This project was substantially complete in December 2004. The new park plaza and open space opened to the public in late June 2005. This allowed an establishment period for the new lawn. Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Department of Transportation, and the Department of Neighborhoods worked with Parks to develop the design that integrates development of the open space with drainage and future street improvements. Design elements include: • Pedestrian plaza at northeast corner of Linden and 143rd with curb, gutter, concrete sidewalk, seating walls, decorative pavers, reintegrated art work at entry, plantings and lawn, and water oriented focal point; See schematic design below for plan details.
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe project goal was to develop public open
space amenities around Bitter Lake Reservoir, implementing policy LU-6-3
of the Broadview - Bitter Lake - Haller Lake Neighborhood Plan: |
"The City shall move the fence during the rehabilitation of the Bitter Lake reservoir and, in conjunction with community organizations, property and business oweners, residents, and other interested parties, develop walking paths and recreational areas for children and adults, community gardens and landscaping, which may include a P-patch garden, and additional or other types of public open space features." Project design was coordinated with other City departments including Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Transportation, Seattle City Light and Department of Neighborhoods. The city's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs also collaborated on this project. |
