Pro Parks Levy

 

Acquisition

The levy provides funds to create more than 30 new parks in Seattle neighborhoods and to preserve wooded green spaces.

Development

The Pro Parks Levy is drawing to a close, with over 70 park development projects completed. We are working toward finishing many additional Pro Parks Levy projects. The projects include everything from habitat restoration to ballfield improvements to art installations to city trails.

Environmental Stewardship,
Maintenance, and Programming

Environmental stewardship, enhanced maintenance, new teen programs, Learn to Swim, senior services and Zoo programs are all included in the Levy's program funding.

Opportunity Fund

Citizens submitted nominations for park acquisition and development projects through two cycles of the Levy's Opportunity Fund, and dozens of projects are being implemented.

Oversight Committee

A citizens Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee meets regularly to provide oversight for the Levy, including project scheduling and recommendations for the Levy's Opportunity Fund.

LEVY HIGHLIGHTS
In the eight years of the Levy, Parks has focused on innovation, creativity and sustainability in our projects -- all the while completing our projects on time and within budget. We've focused on fiscal, social and environmental improvements on each job we undertake, improving our sustainable building practices, engaging more than 15,000 individuals in our public processes, and leveraging project funding by partnering with other agencies.

Cal Anderson Park
Dedicating Cal Anderson Park
Cal Anderson Park
The new Cal Anderson Park on Capitol Hill offers this populous neighborhood a respite from daily life in downtown. Amenities include open lawns; a shelterhouse; a playground; pathways; a fountain, texture pool, and reflecting pool; promenade paths; landscaping; an irrigation system; and lighting. This new park site invites walking, sitting, reading, contemplation, and informal sports in the meadow.
