Overview of Our Work

Families and Education Levy
We administer the Seattle Families and Education Levy which supports positive child and youth development programs that will help all of Seattle's children become school ready, succeed academically, and graduate from high school. Learn more.

Planning is underway for 2011 Levy Renewal. The Levy Oversight Committee, via an expanded Levy Advisory Committee, developed a proposal in 2010 and submitted its final recommendations to the Mayor and City Council. Partnerships
Forming partnerships between the City and the schools are critical to building quality learning environments and helping our schools strengthen academic achievement. We also join with community and business leaders and philanthropists around the region to support programs to help kids thrive. Learn More

Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative
In 2008, five teenagers were shot to death in Seattle.  Earlier in the year, former Mayor Nickels brought together community leaders, principals, members of the faith community and others to develop a new approach to preventing youth and gang-related violence. The Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative sets a new direction by identifying and helping about 800 young people each year who are at a vulnerable point in their lives and who are at highest risk of perpetuating violence or becoming victims.
