"Norton Wants to Give Power to the People," Seattle Press , 3-23-99
For more than 20 years as a community activist and Democratic Party leader, Daniel Norton has been standing up for what's right and fighting for what's important to the people of Seattle.
Daniel Norton is the only candidate in the race for Seattle City Council Position #1 who has a long record of fighting downtown corporate welfare while developing innovative ideas to improve Seattle's neighborhoods, transportation, and quality of life.
When the billionaire owners of Seattle's sports teams demanded hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to build new stadiums, Norton helped organize a grassroots civic watchdog group to fight these powerful interests.
Daniel Norton will fight the Mariners latest plan to stick taxpayers with cost overruns at the new ballpark.
When Nordstrom in a backroom deal demanded $78 million from the taxpayers for a parking garage and to open Pine Street to automobiles, Daniel Norton joined forces with Peter Steinbrueck and Nick Licata to co-found Friends of Westlake Park to fight the special interests.
Daniel Norton will demand accountability to the taxpayers first when the city embarks on public-private partnerships.
Daniel Norton is running for City Council to give ordinary citizens and our neighborhoods a progressive voice.
On the Council, Daniel Norton will fight for:
Transportation: Make public transportation more inexpensive, convenient and practical; expand discounted bus passes.
