ENDORSED: King County Labor Council and King County Young Democrats.

Judy Nicastro is running for City Council because she believes we need a city that will act on the issues most important to us: traffic/transportation, safety/affordable housing and growth.

TRAFFIC/TRANSPORTATION:

How many hours a week do you spend in traffic? Too many. We need positive incentives to get people on transit such as expanding the free ride zone, and implementing an inexpensive city-wide bus pass.

People want a fast, efficient way to move around Seattle, and that is why we voted for the Monorail 2 years ago. By now we should have a proposal before us on a proposed route and funding options.

Also, we must make sure that Sound Transit Light Rail goes to Northgate in phase 1. That is smart for protecting our environment and in reducing traffic.

SAFETY/AFFORDABLE HOUSING:

For those of you who are fortunate enough to own your house, could you afford to buy your house today? For those of you who rent, could you afford a 20, 30 or 40% rent increase? Renters make up 52% of our population and have no protection from these type of rent increases, no right to renew a lease and no right to a mobile credit report. To have stable safe neighborhoods, we must have stable housing. This can be done by increasing our housing supply and passing smart landlord/tenant protection laws.

This past November she started a group called Local Housing Needs Local Laws to address our housing crises. The group succeed in getting a hearing and a bill introduced in Olympia which would give local jurisdictions the freedom to address our housing crises at a local level.

Judy attended the University of Washington where she was Student Body President. She graduated from UW Law School and works at Boeing. Judy has been active on pro-choice, housing and safety issues. Judy has volunteered in our community in such organizations as: Women's Funding Alliance, American Civil Liberties Union Education Advisory Board, Northwest Women's Law Center Legislative Committee, U.W. Board of Regents (ex-officio).

"It would be an honor to work for you to make Seattle a better place for everyone. With your vote I will bring fresh, energetic leadership to our city."
