Dear Seattle Voter,

I am running for the City Council because I believe we must do everything we can to keep Seattle livable and affordable for our children and grandchildren.

My great-grandfather rowed to work across Lake Union to the Seattle Cedar Mill in Ballard. My parents grew up on Capitol Hill, and my two children attend the same public school their grandmother did. My wife, Kathy, and I hope that our children will be the sixth generation of Fiskens who make Seattle their home.

Seattle is a wonderful city, but our region's booming growth is taking a toll on our quality of life. To preserve our unique neighborhoods, diverse communities and beautiful environment, the City Council must:

  • Ease Traffic Congestion

We must make it easier to get around the entire city - as well as in and out of downtown. People need efficient and affordable transportation options.

  • Make Housing More Affordable

We must create more homes for people with low and middle incomes. To accept more housing, neighborhoods need improved transportation, strong business districts and ample open space.
I can help solve these problems because I understand neighborhood concerns - and I am the only candidate with the financial expertise our city council needs. My experience includes:

Financial Advisor to the City of Seattle

  • Wrote the Comprehensive Financial Plan to help the city plan ahead and spend wisely.
  • Found $2,000,000 in an old account to pay for more basic services.
  • Devised creative financing to build affordable housing.
Publisher of The Seattle Sun community newspaper

  • Provided a voice for Seattle's neighborhoods.
  • Called for public transit service in urban communities.
  • Contested bad zoning and unplanned development.
I am not a TV personality, a career politician or a bureaucrat.

I am someone who has spent my life working behind the scenes to make our city a better place to live, work and raise a family. I can help keep Seattle a wonderful place because I understand the issues, know the process and bring new energy to the task.

I am proud to have the early support of: Denis Hayes
Marlaina Kiner-McIver
Karen Marchioro
Representative Jim McIntire
Mary Jean Ryan
Representative Helen Sommers
Hugh Spitzer

and hundreds of others who are working hard on my campaign. Thanks for your consideration. I would greatly appreciate your vote.

Alec Fisken
