By amending the Seattle City Charter, we clarify certain
sections, delete or change certain provisions that have become
obsolete or eclipsed by state law, and bring provisions into line with
the present needs and expectations of the citizens and officials
of Seattle. Proposition 6 eliminates Auditing Committee
provisions, which do not conform with current City financial practices
and have not been utilized for a number of years. This change
does not represent a major shift in authority or policy as currently
embodied in the Charter.

Mayor Schell says that "Proposition 6 eliminates Auditing
Committee provisions, which do not conform with the current City
financial practices and have not been utilized for years." What
is the City's "current financial practice"? "Tax, tax, spend,
spend, elect, elect". And how could the City not have utilized an
Auditing Committee "for years"
when it was required by the City Charter? Because they ignored the City Charter. Mayor Schell states
that this portion of the Charter, a section that deals with financial
accountability, has "not been
utilized for years". One look at
the City's out of control spending and taxing makes that clear.
Getting rid of fiscal controls does indeed represent a major shift
in authority and policy as currently embodied in the Charter.
Vote NO on Proposition 6 and then call for the City to comply with
the provisions of the Charter.
