We should not change the Seattle City Charter, an historic
document, to reflect the politically correct nonsense of
our time.
It is common knowledge that in many documents, including
legal documents, "he" is not a gender specific term anymore than
historic, history or mankind are. Changing every "he" to "he/she"
is absurd. It takes longer to say and sounds like a chocolate bar.
Constitutions and Charters should only be amended on
substantive matters and are not to be frivolously changed in order to
salve the misguided hypersensitivities of nit-picking bureaucrats.
The Seattle City Charter is our city's constitution, it deserves
protection from needless meddling.
Vote NO on this one.

Rebuttal to Statement Against
The language of government documents should be as
inclusive as possible. Outdated terms such as "councilmen" and
"policemen" do not describe these positions today. Preserving
old, exclusive language is offensive to many of our citizens.
