Seattle P-I: "Pageler has emerged as
one of the Council's most effective workhorses, successfully taking on difficult issues
such as gun control
. Pageler has earned a reputation for doing her homework, for
being a straight shooter who will not simply go along to get along. Pageler warrants
re-election."
Seattle Times: "Pageler is a
no-nonsense official
. Pageler gets the
endorsement because year after year, week after
week, she's the council's workhorse, not its showhorse
. She is smart, measured
and experienced."
Margaret Pageler says:
Seattle is the most vibrant city in
America today. Look around you. What do you see?
Robust economy. Crime down. New initiatives for arts and the environment. A
sense that Seattle is moving in the right direction.
It's no accident. For the past eight
years, I've worked hard to make Seattle a good place to live.
I get things done.
Affordability. I've guaranteed that one
of your big housing costs utility bills
remained low by ensuring that your electric utility stays independent.
Result: lowest residential light rates in urban America.
Safety. I organized Seattle's first
gun buyback and trigger-lock campaign. We now have a national model for violence
prevention in our schools thanks to the "Cops
and Docs" program where police and ER doctors give kids the straight facts about guns.
Result: safer schools, lives saved.
Environment. I'm ensuring city
government does its part. I'm Seattle's leader on salmon recovery. I preserved Seattle's
pristine watershed, launched the City's response to global warming, increased water
conservation, and have all city agencies committed to slashing use of toxic chemicals
and pesticides. Result: sustainable performance.
Downtown and the
Neighborhoods. Six years ago I made a commitment to
revitalize our dark, decaying city center. Result:
a vibrant, successful downtown today. I "adopted" the most controversial
neighborhood planning area West Seattle.
Result: ArtsWest Center, new police precinct, creek restoration already
launched.
Infrastructure. I'm spearheading new
investments in stormwater drainage, replacing Seattle's aging waterpipes, and
upgrading power lines and streetlights. I reorganized the City's response to landslides.
Result: a city that works! I serve on
the State Board of Health and chair the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.
I work hard. I get things done.
But the work isn't finished. Solid
leadership is more important than ever on this new City Council. I'm asking again for your
vote, and I thank you for it.
