ENDORSED BY: The Seattle Post Intelligencer, The Stranger, The Seattle Times, The Seattle Press, King County Labor Council, Human Services and Housing NOW, Seattle Fire Fighters Local 27, Joint Artist Musicians Political Action Committee, King County Democrats

We need a City Council that will ACT on our most pressing issues.

• Affordable Housing

• Transportation

• Safety

AFFORDABLE HOUSING: For those of you who rent, could you afford a 20, 30 or 40% rent increase? Renters make up 52% of our population and have no protection from these type of rent increases, no right to renew a lease and no right to a mobile credit report.

To have stable safe neighborhoods, we must have stable housing.

This can be done by, increasing our housing supply and passing smart landlord/tenant protection laws.

Wherever I go in Seattle I ask, "If you own your home, could you buy it at today's prices?" And the overwhelming answer is NO. I ask, "Do you know many young people or couples who can afford a Seattle home today?" And the answer is NO. I ask, "If your mortgage or rent went up 50% in two months, could you afford it?" And the answer is NO.

It is time for new leadership and new approaches to affordable housing; we cannot price people out of their homes, apartments and neighborhoods.

TRANSPORTATION: We need positive incentives to get people on transit, such as expanding the free ride zone, and implementing an inexpensive citywide bus pass.

People want a fast, efficient way to move around Seattle, and that is why we voted for the Monorail 2 years ago. By now we should have a proposal and a proposed route and funding options.

We must make sure that Sound Transit Light Rail goes to Northgate in phase 1. This is smart for protecting our environment and it will reduce traffic.

Judy Nicastro graduated from the University of Washington Law School where she was Student Body President. She works at Boeing.

She has been active on prochoice, affordable housing, and safety issues. Judy has volunteered in our community in organizations such as: Women's Funding Alliance, American Civil Liberties Union, Northwest Women's Law Center, and the U.W. Board of Regents (exofficio).

"It would be an honor to work for you to make Seattle a better place to live for everyone. With your vote I will bring fresh, energetic leadership to our city."
