Written Voters' Pamphlet Statement Submitted by Candidate

Seattle needs strong LEADERSHIP for the 21st Century. I believe in asking the difficult questions, bringing decisionmakers together and hammering out solutions.

AN END TO TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK. I have lived in Seattle for 14 years and every year the traffic has gotten worse. Long, slow commutes. Traffic stress. Enough is enough!! We need LEADERSHIP. We deserve a city council that takes charge of the transportation problem and delivers solutions. Sound Transit, the Monorail, the Ferries, the State highways, the County bus system, and the City must all work together. The answer is the City providing regional leadership and implementing its Strategic Plan.

Seattle and the Puget Sound Region must use 21st Century technology. We must dare to find creative, innovative solutions. We must have rapid transit systems which serve ALL neighborhoods. And we must have the public private partnerships that will finance this system within budget.

HOUSING FOR EVERYONE. Each year fewer and fewer of us can afford to buy a home. Increasing rents force us to make hard choices. We need LEADERSHIP. A healthy economy can insure homes for the homeless. We can expand lowincome housing. We can make housing available and affordable. We can protect the rights of renters.

PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT. Our environment must be protected for this and future generations. Our children expect no less. LEADERSHIP is needed. We can open up Seattle's creeks for the salmon to live in and for people to enjoy. We can build more parks, preserve our open space, create and enhance recreation opportunities. Clean air, clean water, fair utility rates are not dreams, but reality waiting to happen.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. Seattle must eliminate city laws which discriminate against the poor and the homeless. Such attitudes are unacceptable in the 21st Century. Seattle's values do not include discrimination and our laws must reflect our values. We must work in positive ways: open public sanitation stations, day programs for the mentally ill, help people end their drug and alcohol dependency.

Community organizations, residents and leaders have recognized my leadership skills and endorsed me including: King County Labor Council, the King County Democrats, SEAMEC (highest rating), Housing and Human Services PAC, Green Party of Seattle, The Weekly, The Stranger and the Seattle Press. Muni League says Very Good.

Seattle needs LEADERSHIP. Thank you for your support and vote.
