Michael Preston, a Seattle native, has been a forceful and articulate voice on the School Board, overseeing the transformation of the District into a national model for education. Under his leadership the District has won awards for
financial management. He has made hard decisions without sacrificing quality education.
Preston is ready to take his experience on the School Board, as a neighborhood advocate and a business owner to work for you on the City Council.
We need Preston's leadership because the incumbent hasn't offered it. We can count on Preston to do what he says he will do.
Michael Preston will bring his dedication and commitment to:
Stop Sound Transit's train to nowhere; $2 billion over budget, years behind schedule, and it doesn't even get from downtown to SeaTac. Preston will push for short- and long- term solutions, including monorail, more buses with dedicated lanes, more bike lanes and trails. He will get you out of traffic. His opponent, conversely, is an unquestioning supporter Sound Transit.
Build the Monorail. The voters have spoken. Its cost-effective, built quicker, and better suited to our geography. The incumbent voted to kill the first monorail initiative.
Create and retain affordable housing. Rents have skyrocketed, and we need to create a system in which rents increase, but in a stable manner. Preston will work hard to retain and increase current affordable Housing. His opponent has encouraged gentrification at the expense of low-income housing.
Improve community-police relationships. Preston will lead a drive to put video cameras in all police cars to increase trust and reduce fear between the community and the police. His opponent voted against the Citizen Review Panel for Police Accountability.
Protect our environment. Preston is a strong advocate for environmental stewardship. He has supported protecting the Cedar River Watershed, reserving water for salmon. His opponent says he likes the environment, but has done little to improve it, while supporting anti-environmental legislation.
Support our neighborhoods. Neighborhood Plans should be the heart of city planning. Neighborhood Matching Fund Grants should not be relied on for basic neighborhood improvement projects.
Michael Preston believes it is time to have effective, principled leadershipon the council to tackle these problems. If you want strong advocacy, and a council member you can count on to get the job done, vote for Michael Preston. He will be your voice on the City Council.
Vote Michael PRESTON for Seattle City Council.
