I'm Edsonya Charles and I'm asking for your vote for Seattle City Attorney. I have the quality legal experience we need and the ability to bring the people of Seattle together at this critical time.

I am a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Fraud Division. I have past experience in private legal practice specializing in land use, and was recognized as Outstanding Young Attorney by the King County Bar. As a former executive director of the Seattle Human Services Coalition and an advocate for persons with disabilities, I understand the needs of people and know how to manage a professional staff.

Four of Seattle's former mayors — Norm Rice, Wes Uhlman, Charles Royer and Gordon Clinton, leaders who worked closely with our previous City Attorneys and know what it takes to do this job well — have endorsed me as the candidate with the right knowledge, background and personal qualities for this important job.

Here's what they and others have to say:

"Edsonya Charles is a superior candidate, head and shoulders above the others in the race." — Wes Uhlman (Mayor 1969-77)

"Experience can't be measured in years. Edsonya Charles has the character and compassion we need in the City Attorney's office." — Gordon Clinton (Mayor 1956-64)

"I know what it is to run a city in turbulent times. Edsonya Charles has the interpersonal skills and the depth Seattle needs today." — Norm Rice (Mayor 1990-97)

"If experience is measured by competence, action and achievement, Edsonya Charles has what it takes." — Charlie Royer (Mayor 1978-89)

"As the City's chief prosecutor, the City Attorney needs experience as a prosecutor. Edsonya Charles has that experience." — Former US Attorney Katrina Pflaumer

"The City Council needs to work closely with the City Attorney. I know we can work with Edsonya Charles." — City Councilmember Jim Compton

Many challenges and opportunities face our City, in the areas of transportation, utilities regulation, land use and environmental policy. The City needs competent advice, a steady hand and strong leadership. I pledge to exercise that leadership on these issues and to recruit and retain qualified attorneys to deal with them.

As City Attorney, I will act to protect the public safety while defending individual rights. I will act in the interest of the entire City.

Seattle deserves an Attorney who can make its citizens proud. I want to be YOUR City Attorney. I would appreciate your vote.
