The garden site at 529 NE 103rd Street is envisioned as a park and community garden. We hope to create a place where people will have the opportunity to grow plants, watch birds, relax in the outdoors, discover common interests, and become more engaged in the community. The property was purchased by Seattle Parks and Recreation in 2003 using funds from the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund, King County Conservation Futures Levy, Department of Neighborhoods Neighborhood Matching Fund, and community donations. Barker Landscape Architects is providing design services. There will be several opportunities for volunteers to participate during the next steps outlined above. Volunteers are needed to help with fundraising, to help build the garden and for other tasks. Pledges of volunteer time are needed to submit with the matching fund application. Pledge forms are available at the garden information table and on line at: www.ci.seattle.wa.us/COMMNTY/mapleleaf/pledgeform.htm or by contacting Barbara Maxwell.
